Baptism is a sacrament—an outward sign of an inward grace. It is something God is doing in us and for us that we cannot do for ourselves. Baptism has been a Christian symbol since the time of Jesus. It involves applying water to Christians to symbolize their death to the old way of life, (Romans 6.3-4) and their new life that God provides (Galatians 3.26-27). Baptism is an obedient response to Christ’s command (Matthew28:19) and seals one’s intention to follow God (Acts 2.38-41).
