Swazi 5k History
Scott and Karen Dedmon were a part of early teams to Eswatini and their hearts were stirred by the gracious people of this African nation and their great needs. Karen is a delivery room nurse. Scott is an architect. There were needs for clinic renovation and needed supplies for Raleigh Fitkin’s Labor and Delivery ward. The needs they saw were many!
Karen came to visit Barbi Moore, Director of Global Outreach, in 2009. She had a desire to help Eswatini and to provide scholarships for people wanting to join a short-term team. Karen felt a 5K was a great way to get the word out and to involve hundreds of people every year as volunteers, participants in the 5K, and sponsors. Five years ago she invited the BFC After School Program to be involved as well as participants and recipients.
Karen was right. This is our 11th year and something that you don’t want to miss!
