Never Change Devotional - Day 1
Inspiration for the song
God, where are you? Most of us who have been in relationship with God have asked this question: “God, where are you?” We ask this in the midst of seasons of doubt, loss of job, family issues, divorce, death, depression, grief, struggles, and other life circumstances. It tends to come out of desperation, a moment of rock bottom, or the inability to see a way out. The truth is, we only ask this question, “God, where are you?” because our past experience tells us that God has delivered us before and it is possible that God will deliver again.
Scripture: Psalm 61
1 Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
2 From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the foe.
4 I long to dwell in your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
5 For you, God, have heard my vows;
you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
6 Increase the days of the king’s life,
his years for many generations.
7 May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever;
appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him.
8 Then I will ever sing in praise of your name
and fulfill my vows day after day.
Devotional: The lyrics of “Never Change” declare the profound truth of God: God’s character will never change. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. No matter how distant God may seem in certain seasons of life or how distant you have gotten from God, you can trust in the fact that God hears your cry, is working to rescue you, and is waiting to give you shelter from the storm.
In the next few minutes, journal and pray. Are you in a season where God seems distant? Are you in a place where you have distanced yourself from God? What comfort does it bring, reminding yourself that God will never change?
