Adult Classes

College

Ages: 18-23 Class Size: 40 Room: 200, Second Floor of South East Lobby
Pastor Mike Brooks teaches this group of college-age individuals, some who are currently attending college and some who are not. They study the Bible and how contemporary issues intersect with faith in a presentation and discussion format. They have regular social activities.

Young Adult 101

Ages: 20-26 Class Size: 25 Room: 205, Second Floor of South West Lobby
This class was created for single and married young adults and is taught by Lewis and Rita McClain and Misty and Chad Jaggers. It focuses on making wise decisions, serving God and others, being grateful for what God is doing, and developing healthy relationships with God and people. There is a lot of discussion time in class, and many social events outside of the class time.

Class Yet-to-Be-Named

Ages: 20-30 Class Size: 30 Room: 159, Chapel
This class is just now forming and is taught by Dr. Blair Spindle. It is specifically targeting those in their 20's who are looking for a place to connect. Most are married, and some have young children. The teaching style is focused discussion on a Bible passage.

Roots

Ages: 24-33 Class Size: 50 Room: 150/155, Chapel 
The Roots class is taught by Dr. Steve Green and Scott Regester. They are a friendly, informal and occasionally academic group. The class is made up of singles and married couples, many with young children. They spend time digging deeper into the Bible and Christian living through discussion. 

Journey

Ages: 28-38 Class Size: 30 Room: Upstairs Exercise Room, Family Life Center
Journey is friendly and inclusive, and is taught by Beth and Paul Wetmore and Kim and Keith Campbell. They are a very social group of married couples with children. They desire to grow spiritually and grow deeper and engage in a lot of discussion.

Family Circus

Ages: 30-50 Class Size: 50 Room: 121, Main Level
Brenda Teeters, Rob Redwine, and Jeff Cox teach Family Circus. This class was created as a resource for parents in the child-raising phase of life. Lesson topics include current Christian literature, books of the Bible, and marriage enrichment studies. The group is friendly, talkative, and active.

For Ladies Only

Ages: 30-70 Class Size: 20 Room: Craft Room, Family Life Center
Holly Johnson teaches this group of women who are single, divorced, or married and attend alone. For Ladies Only is a prayerful and supportive class, welcoming anyone with love. Many different backgrounds are represented, and everyone connects well with one another through discussion time and prayer.

Circle of Friends

Ages: 35-65 Class Size: 120 Room: 025, Lower Level
Dave O’Bannon teaches this group that is focused on outreach and living out their faith. The class is made up of single people and married couples, many with children, with many life stages represented. They are active in social events and service opportunities.

The Gathering

Ages: 40-55 Class Size: 30 Room: 024, Lower Level
This class is taught by Stephane Shellenberger and is made up of married couples and a few singles with children. This group of professionals is very welcoming of newcomers and those who don’t have family attending church with them. They alternate between Bible and topical studies, and will be studying the Bob Goff’s Love Does during winter 2013.

Salt and Light

Ages: 40-60 Class Size: 45 Room: Family Life Center Gym
Jim Priest and Pastor Michaele LaVigne teach this highly interactive class with purpose-led discussion. The group is made up mostly of married couples with older children. In 2013 Salt and Light will be in a year-long study about what it means to be a disciple--and how to become one. They also have regular social and service events.

Better Homes and Lives

Ages: 45-60 Class Size: 20 Room: 027, Lower Level
This class is taught by Cyndi Lackey, and feels like a family atmosphere with a variety of personalities and backgrounds. It is made up of married couples and few singles, with various ages of children. The class focuses on Bible study, lecture-style teaching with time for sharing and prayer.

Cornerstone

Ages: 45-65 Class Size: 30 Room: 124, Main Level
Cornerstone is taught by Doug Eaton and Brad Frensley. It is an encouraging and welcoming class with married couples and singles with children of various ages. They use lecture, discussion, and frequent videos as a part of teaching. They have regular social events and are welcoming to those in all walks of life.

Heart to Heart

Ages: 48- 70 Class Size: 45 Room: 023, Lower Level
This class is very relational, interactive, service-oriented, and is taught by Marilyn Olson. They have singles and married couples from many different backgrounds and ages, and it is their mission to make everyone feel included. Their teaching style includes lecture and discussion, with plenty of time for prayer.

Lifelifters

Ages: 50-66 Class Size: 30 Room: 022, Lower Level
Dr. Peggy Poteet teaches this varied group of people who enjoy Bible study and discussion and who support each other in prayer. They are made up of married couples and singles with children high school age and older. They have monthly social gatherings as well.

Sonseekers

Ages: 50-68 Class Size: 85 Room: 026, Lower Level
Dr. Kep Keoppel teaches this very diverse group with a wide range of occupations, socio-economic levels and education. Most in the group are married couples with children in college or older, and are very active in other ministries offered at BFC. It is a generous, mission-minded, and social class with several events throughout the year.

Reach Out

Ages: 45-85 Class Size: 120 Room: 121, Main Level
Rev. Lindell Watson teaches this group of people in many different stages of life. The class includes those who are married, single, and widowed, most with grown children. They often sing together, and take time for sharing and discussion. Each week’s lesson is based on Scripture, rarely using book or video studies.

Changing Times

Ages: 45-95 Class Size: 40 Room: 322, Third Floor
This group desires to serve God and know one another, and is taught by Dr. Hal Cauthron. Made up of mostly married couples, they include many stages of life. They often have special music at the beginning of each class. Lessons are from the Nazarene Sunday School literature so that the Bible is studied in a logical order for spiritual growth.

Great Expectations

Ages: 55-75 Class Size: 65 Room: 151, Chapel
Dr. Tom Barnard teaches this class which is full of faithful, encouraging, and caring people. Most are married, with some single and widowed, and some in the group are retired. They have time weekly for coffee and fellowship before brief sermon-style teaching. Once a quarter they have a potluck meal together.

Get Real

Ages: 58-80 Class Size: 65 Room: Atrium
Ron Mercer is the main teacher of this class, with other class members helping teach as well. Teaching is lecture style, with time for prayer requests and sharing. A diverse group covering many life stages, they host regular events outside of class, and are very service-minded. Get Real is a lively group, somewhat traditional, and very welcoming to newcomers.

Fellowship

Ages: 55-99 Class Size: 35 Room: 124, Main Level
The Fellowship class enjoys lecture-style Bible study from the Nazarene Sunday School curriculum taught by Rev. Will Stemen. The class includes those who are married and widowed, most with grown children and/or grandchildren. They have time for discussion and prayer, with opportunities to learn from one another.

The Better Life

Ages: 60-70 Class Size: 14 Room: 020, Lower Level
This faithful and caring group is taught by Winford Akins. They are married and single, with some being retired. Each week they discuss the pastor's sermon from that morning, and class members share insights and applications.

Care-n-Share

Ages: 60-75 Size: 6 Room: 021, Lower Level
The Care-N-Share class is focused on in-depth, interactive Bible study using the Nazarene Sunday School literature and is taught by Rev. Ralph Horner. The group is made up of mostly retired singles who take time during class and throughout the week to support and care for one another.

Kumjoynus

Ages: 67-85 Class Size: 80 Room: 152/154, Chapel
This class is a faithful, prayerful, and caring group of people taught by Dr. Don Dunnington. Kumjoynus includes married and widowed individuals, all of whom are retired with grown children and/or grandchildren. They use the Nazarene Sunday School literature for Bible study with lecture-style teaching. The class frequently opens with singing, and has regular social events.

Escuela Dominical

All ages welcome Class Size: 10 Room: 157, Chapel
Dr. Jerry Rice teaches Escuela Dominical, which is BFC’s only Spanish-speaking Sunday School class. The class sessions are mostly discussion based, and the group has occasional social events outside of class.
