A Word from the Heart

A Word from the Heart

On September 4, Pastor David shared his journey of deciding to accept the presidency of Nazarene Theological Seminary and to resign as senior pastor of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Because of the nature of this message to the congregation, it is not available to download.

There are many in the congregation who were out of town on this Sunday. We are making complimentary audio CDs of the message available to members and those who attend regularly. You may order them through Media Ministries. We will not be mailing these CDs but you may pick them up at the West Welcome Center on Sunday morning.

Bummer. Since several of us were out of town for the holiday weekend, I was hoping to hear what Pastor David had to say about the transition. Any chance you'll reconsider?

Pastor, you will be deeply missed. I believe God sent you to our congregation to give us the opportunity to become the Lion-Lamb community you described on August 28th. If as a church we could emulate your attitudes and demonstrate on a consistent basis the Lion-Lamb concept you envision, we would not have an empty seat in any service.
I have known at least three families in the last year who have left the church because of routinely encountering the old, outdated attitudes and behaviors you have identified. These have included racial prejudice, cultural/political discrimination and issues of judgmentalism. You have challenged our congregation to be better than we have been and to do so by fulfilling God's vision for us. Thank you for your commitment, your passion and your demonstration of Chist's love.
The Church of the Nazarene's future is a bit brighter with the Voice of Compassion you will bring to the seminary.
